This is outrageous. When did we start allowing such trashy "businessmen" to have the last say on our nation's environment? Is this now just the beginning of what we will have to put up with at oil vomits into the Gulf of Mexico? I bet coal miners and the industry leaders of Massey and TVA are feeling high and mighty now that oil is taking the focus off their own destruction.

During this next couple of years it will be critical to create a solid, usable and encompassing system of monetarily calculating environmental feed back systems. The effects of the recent Gulf Coast oil spill will be, undoubtedly, astronomical. Our gravest mistake as stewards of the planet would be to let it go by and become a faint memory. The TVA coal ash spill of December 2008 is already a ghost. The challenge we face now requires the inclusion of economists, policy makers, scientists and environmentalists. The underlining point here is that if the planet dies, we die. There is no human existence without a healthy planet to support us. We have had the luxury of distancing ourselves from that fact but, we no longer do. Regardless of your "belief" in global climate change, there is no denying the degradation of the planet, we all see it. This is a mirror. The degradation of the planet is subsequently the slow death of the human species.
